I'm very excited to finally let you all know that a new addition is coming to Rachel Rene Bath & Body! Jussara, the owner of Spa Therapy Works LLC on Etsy, has decided to close her shop and has offered me the opportunity to carry the entire product line including her custom scents under my brand! I'm extremely excited because STW's line is not only amazing in it's own right, it is a fresh and new product line that is different than what I currently offer! Here's a list of some of the new products coming:

Vegan Deodorants, Goat's Milk Shaving Bars, Body Mist, Silky Body Lotion (this is a lighter lotion than the Body Mousse I currently offer and comes in a bottle), a complete facial care line which includes Face Scrubs, Face Masks, Face Toners, Face Creams, and Goat's Milk Face Soaps. As well as Perfume Oil, Milk Baths, and Vegan Lip Balms!

As of January 14th, you'll start to see the bolded items above in the etsy shop and beginning the 23rd they'll be on my website! The entire product line will added to both sites by February 1st.

I'd like to thank all of STW's customers for being so gracious about the move and the warm welcome you've given me! I promise to offer you the same great products you've been getting with the amazing customer service that you deserve!

After doing some research and deciding on what items/fragrances to carry, I realized some cuts had to be made. It started when I realized my supplier stopped making a certain fragrance that didn't really sell well for me but I liked it, but when it came time to reorder, it was no where to be found!

First off, the worst news, is that I will no longer be making Shaving Soap Bars. I've had them for nearly 2 years and they haven't moved much at all especially in resent months. I'm going to stick with good ol' handmade cold process soaps! The remaining stock can be found on my website http://shoprachelrene.com/ and will be marked down to $2.50/bar while supplies last. They are very limited and I don't have any supplies to make more.

Behind the Scenes: SOAP Part 2...

Cut and curing!!

We'll start with the top row from the left are Lemongrass: yellow bar with green swirl, Orange Sherbet: orange bar with white swirl, Oakmoss: solid green bar, Pure Rain: blue and white layers, Creamy Orange Coconut: solid orange bar, and last but not least, French Vanilla: solid brown bar. The French Vanilla is actually uncolored. The amount of vanilla used in the fragrance naturally turns the soap from a creamy color to a chocolate brown color while it's drying. If you were to cut the bar in half, the middle would still be cream colored for about a day or so and then turn to brown. Interesting huh?!

So I decided to make 6 batches of soap the other day and thought I would bring along my camera to give you a behind the scenes look at what happens when I'm doing what I do. This is one day that I wish I'd had about 3 more hands though because it's not easy to make soap and photograph yourself while doing so which is why only my parts of my hands are in the pictures! :0)

First, I start by measuring all my oils and butters and then mixing my lye water for all the batches.

Here's the oils/butters measured into a stainless steel bowl.

After several minutes on the stove top they are melted.

I then add the lye water to the oils/butters and beging using a stick blender to combine the two.

(Look there's part of my hand)

Once the two are combined the mixture becomes a creamy white color.

This is Creamy Orange Coconut, so I've made a mixture of yellow and red oxides to create a dark orange color. Then I add it to the soap.

Stick blend some more........

Stick blend together until evenly colored

Add fragrance oil. Sometime I do it before I color if I know that the fragrance oil is going to make the color of the soap funky so I have to adjust from there. Stick blend until a light trace begins. (Trace is when the stick blender begins to leave grooves in the mixture while you are stirring. Kind of like when you make whipped cream and it begins to firm up). Different fragrances oils make soap "trace" faster or slower than others. So I always do tests before make a complete batch.

I like to leave it sit for a few minutes so it firms up a bit so I can give it a swirly top!

I use a wire whisk to create swirls on the top. Then I set it in the oven to gel.

Lemongrass on top and Pure Rain on the bottom. I did not take pics of Pure Rain because it's multiple layers and the soap was firming up before I got the second layer on so it was a rush situation!

Orange Sherbet - everything is ready to go in the big bowl. The small bowl has the white portion that I set aside earlier to add as a reverse swirl in the soap!

So that's it! That's how I make soap or at least the very quick not a lot of time to take more detailed pictures version! Hope you enjoyed this little sneek peek into my soap studio! I'll do more behind the scenes posts in the future.

My Fantasty Football woes!

Being born and raised in a family of football fanatics and then marrying one it's easy to see why I am a huge fan of the game myself. It has nothing to do with guys in tight pants either. It has to do the game. Watching a perfectly timed throw from a QB land in the waiting hands of his Wide Receiver in the last minute of the game to then run it in to the end-zone to win the game by 1 or 2 points is amazing to me. It's the pure excitement of it all that catches my fancy.

Until this season though I've been a one game a week girl. Always the Bears - hey I'm from Chicago what did you expect? Well last year my brother started this fantasy league and everyone was in it except me and I was like - "Hey, what the heck! Why didn't I get invited?" So this year, my brother sent me the e-mail and I joined his league. My husband (who played fantasy football most of his adult life except the past few years) said you're gonna get mad. I didn't understand. But he said because you're going to have to care about a lot of teams and players and when they don't do it right your gonna get mad at me. I said no I wouldn't and shook it off like he was crazy - I'm a cool and collective kind of gal, what do I care if my guy scores any points or not. Ladies, there is a time to listen to your husband and if you've been married for 10+ years, there's a chance he knows you pretty darn well!

It's week 4 now and my brother and I played each other this weekend, we were both 0-3 because both our teams seem to suck big time (pardon my french) but it's the truth. We talked tons of trash prior to the games starting and even though I didn't fully expect to win I really really wanted to!! But I suffered my biggest loss of the season 122-72 - give or take a few. What the heck man!? His QB alone scored 49 points and mine scored a whopping 7 - idiot!

I have never in my life though football would make me a screaming at the TV, cursing out players for throwing to the wrong receiver, wishing a team would kick a field goal instead of going for 2 maniac but it did! All the while my husband sits next to me on the couch laughing with that "I told you so" grin on his face. I'm not sure what's more annoying, the fact that I'm 0-4 now or the fact that my husband was right and can now hold it over me forever!!

So I beg you please, cross your fingers and send me some luck that I don't end up 0-5 next weekend!

VACATION!!!

We are finally taking a much needed vacation!! Yay us!! So over the past few weeks, I've been trying to decide what is the best way to drive business to my website. I know that the best way to get people to my site is to offer low prices. Let's face it, handmade bath and body is a luxury and can be quite costly. In today's economy when families are making choices between paying for school supplies, gas and groceries rather than going out to a restaurant, taking a vacation or even going to the movies, my product is not on the top of the priority list. I completely understand this because I am living it and so are many of my friends and family members.

Starting from scratch - kind of.....

It's been a long few weeks looking over reports and crunching numbers, but when you run a business, these things must be done in order to determine the things that are working for your business and the things that are not.

Originally I was going to shrink my fragrance list down, but after some serious calculator work, I've decided to shrink my product line down! Now I know some of you will be heart-broken to see some products go but I just can't afford to keep them in stock when they are not selling. The flip-side to this, if you want to call it that, is that I don't enjoy making these products as much as I do the others in my line. This will give me more time to focus my attention and creativity on the other products in my line and make them even better.

So now that I've had some time to reflect and get some perspective, I'll be discontinueing the following products:

Whipped Soap in a Jar
Foaming Body Polish
Vegan Deodorant Sticks
Silky Smooth Body Lotion

These items will be listed in the Etsy shop tomorrow afternoon at 40% Off - and the word "Discontinued" will be in the title. So, you can search my shop using that word and all the listing will appear. Or you can view the items in their respective sections and if any of them are not marked down, just let me know and I will fix them.

The you must try Majave Hot Sauce!!!

My husband is a huge hot sauce lover and has probably tried a gazillion different types so when a friend of mine told me about Majave, I asked him if it had any flavor because hubby's biggest complaint was that while the hot sauces he tried were hot, they lacked any flavor what so ever. Anyway, my friend said that it did have flavor and I said ok cool maybe I'll get him a bottle. Well I'd forgetton and about a week later, I got a bottle in the mail! How cool is that! My husband (who's a big skeptic) waited until we had tacos before he tried it out. He L-O-V-E-D it! :0)

He didn't think it was going to be any good but boy oh boy was he wrong! Not only does it have the heat but the flavor is amazing! And you don't have to wait for taco night to try it, we use it on Pizza, Chicken, Steak, Pork Chops, you name it!

So if you like a good hot sauce that has good flavor and heat - check them out!

The Holiday Are Coming....so I'm taking a break!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

With the holidays approaching like a tornado in the spring, I have decided that I'll be taking a break beginning on December 16th - January 3rd.

I don't know about you guys but I haven't gotten very much of my holiday gifts bought yet and I still have to plan a dinner for my in-laws the weekend of the 18th which means I'll have to cook and clean! Yikes!

Plus the kids will be on school vacation during this time as well and I don't think I'll be able to get much done during that time with them around anyway!

I will NOT be putting my shop on vacation mode though so you can still place orders but they will not ship until the 3rd of January. I might pop in there when things are slow on the homefront and ship orders or make something here and there but I don't want to make that a definite for obvious reasons!

If you need me for anything you can still convo or e-mail me I will check those daily!

Black Friday - WOW!!

Ok - so like many this year, I thought I would do some holiday shopping on Black Friday! I figured that I would leave around 6am and just drive into town and go to a few stores to see what kind of deals I could get on gifts. It was my very first time ever going out on Black Friday - what was I thinking????

First off, I thought I'd run to Menards to get a couple things they had on sale for hubby and my dad and I figured, it's Menards it won't be as busy as Wal-mart or Target right? WRONG!!! Not only did I have to park 3 stores away in a grassy knoll that was covered in ice, then wade through traffic and people trying to get to the store, I walked around for about 25 minutes only to learn that everything I had gone there for was sold out! I'd never seen so many people in all my life - and I was at a Toby Keith concert this year!

Carts and shopping baskets were full to the brim and what didn't fit was carefully pushed with their feet while they waited to checkout! I was flooded with relief that I didn't buy anything when I saw the checkout line! Approximately 20 checkout lanes all open with at least 20-30 people in each line! I don't think people wait that long from the American Eagle ride at Great America! So I walked out (more like ran, it was freezing out) and headed to Kohl's!

I was in shock when I got to Kohl's - it was practically empty (cause everyone was still at Menards) althought all the shopping carts were gone. I wandered around until I found the toy sections which to my great suprise was well stocked and not very crowded! I ended up finding quite a bit of things for the baby and my older son but had a hard time finding something for my daughter. So I left. BTW - Kohl's checkout system was amazing! The "director of checkout" as I now call her, scouted out the best lane for you and I was checked out in about 10 minutes and I got $40 in Kohl's cash to spend this week! :0)

So anyway - I left and went to Target - where in the parking lot some horrible woman flicked me off and was screaming out her window at me because SHE didn't wait her turn at the 4 way stop! Yeah Happy Holidays to you too lady!! Anyway - into Target I go and let me tell you - I was a little disappointed! If you weren't shopping for electronics, you really didn't have much to look forward too, in my opinion. The shelves weren't clearly marked so I couldn't tell what was on sale and what was regular price. I ended up getting a set of Legos for each of the kids and leaving.

All in all it was a good day but boy oh boy was it insanely busy! I was so tired by 11:00am I thought I wouldn't make it through the rest of the day! I might try again next year but I will better prepare myself for it! Read the ads, scout out the best deals and get there EARLY!!

And on the curing rack are Almond, Rhubarb al Fresco, Rosemary Mint, and Sandalwood. Oakmoss is also on the curing rack but is not part of the regular list yet! Might be in the future we'll just have to see how the response is!

Hopefully I'll get some more soap made this afternoon - not sure yet if it will be Cold Process Soap or Shaving Bars yet! I'll let you know later! :0)

Yippeeee! This is something I've been meaning to do for weeks. I use to have a list of fragrances that I kept in stock for all products at all times. It was called my "regular rotation list". I had strayed away from it for some time now but it's time to get back into some kind of groove so I'm starting here!

I will be reopening the Etsy store tomorrow afternoon. I'm so excited! It's been such a joy to spend the last 7 weeks with my wonderful new little guy - but it's back to business now! He's just getting this new routine down which is leaving me plenty of time to work and create and of course, take orders! :0)

For the time being - I will only in stock items will be available. I will not be able to take any custom orders or requests - due to time constraints. Feel free to contact me about additional quantities of items that are in stock though. If possible - when only 1 of a particular product is left, I will make a note of this in the title, otherwise there should be at least 2 in stock.

I've been know to be too ambitious :0)

So, I originally wanted to re-open my Etsy shop AND website on the 20th of August. I've been struggling to get stuff done while caring for our newborn son. It hasn't been easy and as any new mother knows, sometimes we try to be Superwoman and then beat ourselves up when we don't get everything done.

So while sitting on the deck with my husband the other night unleashing my "I've got no time for..." speech on him, I realized that I am probably expecting a little too much of myself giving the fact that the baby is only 4 weeks old. Instead of spending the last 2 weeks trying to do everything - I should have just been learning to take everything in stride and do only what I can and NOT beat myself up when I don't get the whole house cleaned, and dinner on the table at 6pm, and if I don't get all the laundry done in one day - no one but me is going to know.

So the moral of the story is that while doing a little thinking I've made just a few decisions. I'm pushing the opening of the Etsy shop back to sometime towards the end of August/beginning of September and I will not be opening the website again.

Maintaining both a website and the Etsy shop would be WAY more time consuming then just having the Etsy Shop. So, in the very near future, if you visit ShopRachelRene.com you will be forwarded to my Etsy shop at RachelRene.etsy.com

And when I do reopen at least for the first month or two, I will only be selling what I have in stock and made. I will not be doing any custom orders.

NEW - Vegan Deodorant Sticks

I've been gearing up to open shop later this month and in doing so I've started making new products! First to make it's debut in my Etsy shop and on my website are Vegan Deodorant Sticks! These are amazing!!

They are made from a vegetable base that is free of aluminum and bactericides. It works by neutralizing the odor-causing bacteria that occurs when we perspire, without interfering with the body's natural cooling process - which is sweating.

Some of the wonderful ingredients that make up this awesome new product are Vegetable Protein, Castor Oil, Chamomile Flower Extract, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, and Grapefruit Seed Extract.

So far it is available in Green Tea & Cucumber, Creamy Orange Coconut, Pure Rain, and Black Raspberry Vanilla. More scents will be listed as time allows, however I am open to suggestions so let me know what scents you'd like to see in a deodorant!

Body Mousse being discountinued.... :0(

As a heads up - my Body Mousse will not be returning when I reopen my shop and website. I was receiving complaints that the mousse was separating during transit and then it started happening while it was sitting in my temperature controlled stock room with no rhyme or reason. I've tried adjusting things, duplicating recipes, changing techniques to no avail. It happens sometimes and not others. So I've decided the best thing I can do is pull it from the shelf and work on a new cream/mousse formula.

I'm hoping to get this ready and up for sale in time for the fall weather to kick in as long as I can get the recipe formulated and tested before then!

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause any of you! I know some of you are die hard Body Mousse users so I'll try to come up with something as equally good, if not better!!

Meet our newest little peanut! He is simply perfect isn't he? :0) Ok so I'm bias! I can't help it! Shane was due to arrive on the 8th sometime past 6pm because the doctor was suppose to induce me. However, Shane seems to get his patience from me because I woke up Thursday morning at 3:30 am with what I thought were contractions but kept thinking that was impossible because that was not the predetermined plan! There was a plan you know! :)

So I did lots of things that morning trying to stop the contractions, lying down, drinking water, eating etc. Nothing was working. The contractions were 13 minutes apart so I wasn't really sure that it was labor anyway. Sometime around 6:30 I got a little sick in the bathroom and then my contractions went from 13 minutes apart to 7 minutes apart immediately! PANIC set in! I woke up my husband who woke up the kids and started getting everyone ready to go. I called my parents who had just gotten back from Florida the night before to come pick up the kids from the hospital (sorry if I made you panic Dad). I can't imagine what it's like to hear your daughter have a contraction on the phone! They made it there lightening fast which was great because my husband was pulling double duty trying to be with me and keep an eye on our other two in the "family room" across the hall from my room.

After that it was a piece of cake! We arrived at the hospital at 8:00am and he was born just 5 1/2 hours later! I did have to get an epidural though, I didn't know it would go so fast otherwise I might have just went natural - NOT! It was literally so painful that I was begging for the epidural! :0) Of course I got it and five minutes later my water broke and then 45 minutes later he was born!

He is a good baby and very content as long as his diaper is clean and his belly is full. We are getting a routine down and once that is established, I'll incorporate soap making into the mix. I can't wait until I can start up again! The last few weeks of my pregnancy I was too miserable to make stuff and now that he is here -it's just a matter of balancing time and work.

I am hoping to add some new products when I reopen as well - tinted Lip Butter are first, and Vegetable Based Deodorant is next. I'm still working on a replacement for my Body Mousse recipe. I have not been able to correct the issue I was having so I'm starting from scratch. I'm also going to work on a Cold Process Olive Oil based soap. Not a true castille soap (although that is in the future plan) but a soap with the main ingredient being Olive Oil.

I have not decided exactly when I will reopen, it is looking like it'll be at least the middle of August. I'll keep you updated in the next couple of weeks about this!

24 hours to go.......Am I ready?

Those are the essentials I need for the hospital and the first couple days right? So I should be ready then, except that I'm not! I was just telling my husband last night how nervous I am about having this baby and he likes to say one of two things, "Well it's a little late now" or "You really don't have a choice honey" which is true, there is only one way this little guy can get out and unforetunately for me - it's gonna hurt!

When my daughter was born, I swore I could have 7 kids if their pregnancies and labor were all like hers. When my son was born I told my husband I didn't want anymore kids cause the last 2 months were very painful and he weighed almost 9 lbs at birth (I'll spare you the details). But no matter what they felt like, I didn't *know* when they would arrive. I didn't have time to dwell on the painful thoughts of labor or worry about things that could happen!

With this baby, all I can do is worry and dwell on it and that is only because I know without a doubt that at 1:00pm tomorrow, I will enter the hospital and they will begin prepping me to be induced. I will sit there for 5 hours hooked up to an IV that will pump me full of antibiotics and then at approzimately 6:00pm they will somehow induce labor. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ok - I feel better! LOL

Sometimes it just helps to get that off your chest right?! I know it'll all be fine and worrying or panicing won't do anyone an ounce of good but when else am I suppose to do? Mothers worry best don't we? I really just can't wait to meet him and to show him off to everyone!

While we did not plan for this to happen, I am so grateful that it has. I am looking forward to the firsts that will happen all over again with this little guy! I cannot wait!

So this is it, I have to clean up the house and prepare for the rest of my family to be without me for as many as 3 days plus pack and make sure we have everything we need. I will get a picture post up just as soon as I can once I get back from the hospital!

Back from the Doctor

I went this afternoon and she informed me that I am dialated to 2 cms and the baby is REAL low. He is ready to make his debute!

So - if you're looking for me or trying to contact me and you don't hear from me within 24 hours, I'm probably in labor! :0)

We are hoping to hold off until the 8th or 9th but you know how these things happen!

9 Days and counting!

I can't believe that there are only 9 days before we get to meet this little guy! I'm so excited! It hasn't been the easiest of my 3 pregnancies but as some wonderful people keep reminding me, it will all be worth it in the end and once he's here, I'll forget all about the pain and uncomfortable stuff! :0)

The nursery is done and the crib is set-up, clothes and gifts have been put away, diapers have been stacked, baby food (I like to stock up on that stuff) has been arranged in the pantry, and now we are just waiting for the big day to arrive.

At my last doctors appointment everything was going well. I go back to the doctor on today for an exam and if I'm at all ready to give birth, she'll put me in the hospital on Thursday (6/8) evening and they'll begin inducing me on Friday (6/9).

I guess we should really work on picking a name now! What a process! :0)

Maternity Leave has begun!

WOW!! I can't believe I get to say this already, but I'm on Maternity Leave until at least the first week in August! I'm so excited! There is still so much to do in the next 3 weeks before the little guy arrives not to mention planning and throwing a birthday bash for my son who will be 6 on Thursday. Hope it's not too hot!

I am shipping the last of my orders out this afternoon so everyone's items will be on there way to you today. I will also be checking my e-mail at least every morning if not more often throughout the day.

MATERNITY LEAVE begins 6/20/10

It's almost time!! I'm so excited and anxious I could scream with delight - but I won't :0) With the hot summer already under way (high of 89 today) and only 21 days left until they induce me and my new bundle of joy arrives I've decided to take the next few weeks off and make sure that I am completely ready for this baby to arrive!

Beginning Sunday 6-20-10 at midnight I will close my Etsy Shop and my Website. I will re-open them both as soon as I've adjusted to life with a newborn (oh and healed a bit). I'm hoping it will be within the first week or two of August, but I just won't know until then!

Random thoughts from the pregnant mind!

Ok maybe not so "random". I think it is an extension of the whole "nesting" thing that happens at the end of pregnancy.

I have this uncontrollable need to declutter and organize EVERYTHING in my life right now. It started with moving the kids rooms around and cleaning out their toy boxes and closets. I have now thrown out and donated about half of stuff in my house!

I'm now working on my work shop and business in general! I am committing myself to 25 "regular" fragrances and then having other fragrances that will be seasonal, experiments, limited edition and so on. This came about because several of the fragrances I currently carry have been discontinued by my supplier and I can't find a similar one anywhere else!

All my products will be available in these 25 select fragrances but not right away, I'm working on restocking everything now (which is a tedious task) and plan to have my new line ready to roll by the time I reopen shop in August after maternity leave.

Here's the tentative list:

These would use the same amazing formula that I use now but with some rich color that will enhance your lips natural color. I'd love to hear your opinion!

What else was I thinking about today? I QUIT!!

My day job that is..... :0)

I've entered the 7th glorious month of pregnancy and while for the most part everything is going well (if you don't count the daily injections I now have to give myself for a blood disorder) I've found it increasingly harder to be on my feet all day long at work.

I decided that I would quit my day job to not only rest my legs and feet and give my body some much needed relaxation before the kids are out of school and the baby comes but also to focus on getting Rachel Rene Bath & Body back on track and creating more. IT is now my full-time job and will be until my husband forces me to go and get another job when this baby goes to school! :0)

So in regards to that, I spent all weekend taking inventory and listing all the missing items in my Etsy Shop. All remaining Lip Butter Tubes and Round Bath Bombs are being listed this morning and this afternoon. As well as Lotion Bars, Soaps, Souffles, and Body Mousse that will be listed throughout the week as I get them typed up and photographed.

I'm also working on getting the new lotion bottles with pumps! I'll keep you updated on that in the future!

How's that for news? We had the ultrasound today and found out that we'll be having a bouncing baby boy! We are very excited and can't wait to start picking out names!

I went to the doctor finally and I'll spare you the icky details but everything is fine and I am really truly pregnant! :0)

I've added a pregnancy ticker to this site so you can all see how far along I am. I'm excited now and can't wait to go to the doctor for the first ultrasound - which won't be for a while yet but it's something right?

I pulled out all my old maternity clothes, and who knew that maternity clothes go out of style! That or I totally lost my fashion sense when I was pregnant with my first two kids! Where were my fashion friends then huh?

Oh well maybe I'll go shopping or something soon!

On another note, my Etsy shop and website will be open on however I will be unavailable on Dec. 31st - Jan. 1st due to the holidays. I will answer all questions and process orders on the 2nd. Thanks so much!

Ok so I know it's been a little over a month since my last blog post and that has just been due to so many little things interfering with remembering what I want to blog about!! :0)

Mostly it's because I've had a job and been really tired for the last few weeks! Well, on Thursday I went home from work a little early because I wasn't feeling very well. Then Friday I found out why! SURPRISE I'm pregnant! Before you ask, no we were not planning it, yes we know how to prevent it, yes we tried, but nothing is 100% effective right?! My Daughter is almost 8 and my son (the youngest) is 5 and in kindergarten, we thought we were done! WE WERE WRONG!

Baby #3 will be here sometime in July I think but will know for sure when I go to the doctor. Don't worry - I will not stop making luxurious bath & body products! I will take some time off once the baby gets here, just the normal 4-6 weeks. But that will be scheduled at a later date.

I'll post all the baby news here and anything else that pops up!

Ditch digging update!

We are almost done! Last weekend when us "women folk" were canning applesauce, my dad, 2 uncles, brother and husband all were digging the ditch!

Actually my cousin was helping to and she dug for like 6 hours straight! Bless her little heart!! THANK YOU AMY!!!!

And a big giant humungus THANK YOU to my Dad (your tuckpointing is beautiful), Uncle Ron (hope your knees are feeling better), Uncle Eddie (hope your everything is feeling better :0), and little brother Jake (you'll be back!) for coming out and helping! We are so much further than we would have been without you guys!!!!!!!

OMG - Applesauce!

It's fall, or at least my apple trees say it is! This past weekend, my mom, grandma, aunt, cousin all came out and we picked a gazillion apples and made 28 quart jars of homemade applesauce!

It's amazing! It's perfectly sweetened and with a tiny hint of tartness to make your mouth water! We had a blast making it as it only took about 7 hours! :0)

I can't wait to make pork chops!!

On Sunday, I make another 6 quarts of applesauce and added cinnamon to it and it's tastes like apples pie filling!

Now all I have to do is can my tomatoes! That'll be a later post!

8 Years of Wedded Bliss! (at least most of it)

Today is our 8 year Wedding Anniversary! I just wanted to say that I think my husband is extremely special. It takes a certain kind of man to stay married to me for this long - let me tell ya!

Through all my crazy quirkiness, you seem to understand what I'm saying and thinking even when I don't. You've stood by me through everything and you've given me the 2 greatest gifts in the world, a daughter and a son.

Our life is never perfect, but it's all ours and we always get through everything, together. There isn't anyone else in the world that I would rather live with, laugh with or love than you!

Here's to another 8 years and more - I Love You ♥

The Chicken Run is DONE!

I've been meaning to take pictures of it forever but always forgot to buy batteries for my camera but finally I have them, and got to take pictures this past weekend!!

We put an 18 inch tall white fence around the entire bottom of the chicken run and I'm happy to say that it has done the trick of keeping MOST of the chickens in the pen! There are 2-3 that get out every day but at least it's not all of them!

That is one project down = only about 100 more to go! LOL

I know some of you are anxiously awaiting the re-opening of my etsy shop and I'm so sorry it's taking so long but we are almost there! I've decided that my shop will re-open on Thursday October 1st!!!

I'll be sending out a special newsletter later in the week so if you're not signed up yet, go over to the right of this blog and fill out the info!!

I'm also pleased to announce that I'm working on developing a website!!! This is so exciting! You'll be able to purchase from both the Etsy shop and my website and I will combine shipping too!!! The website will carry different products than the Etsy shop so I thought offering combined shipping seemed like the best thing to do!

If it weren't for bad luck - I'd have no luck!

Have you ever heard that saying before? One of my best friends says it all the time when he's having a really bad day, week or month for that matter. I always try to point out the positive things to him and tell him it could be worse - however when you're on the other side you can't always see the positive!

On Monday I started a new part-time job working in the kitchen of one of the local elementary schools. So far I like the job, the people are great and everything is going very well. I left work yesterday at 1:00 and got about 2 miles away when my truck gave a huge lurch and then started clanking, I pulled over and pressed the brakes only to find out they weren't working very well. Finally coasted to a stop and found that my rear brake rotor had apparently rusted through and broke off. Brake fluid is leaking everywhere and I can't get a hold of anyone except my husband who works 2 hours away.

So there I sat on the side of the road playing Suduko on my cell phone for 2 hours waiting for him and all I could think about was, what do I tell my boss when I can't come in tomorrow because I have no car!!! I was so upset!

Finally Larry pulls in and he drives the truck home and I take his car, he had to use the emergency brake the whole way home. He spends the next 5 hours taking off the old rotor, going to the store to get the new one, installing the new rotor and replacing the brake pads. What a miserable time for him!

SO, all is well right? NOT! The truck is fine however the other rotor is looking pretty rusted too, that will be replaced this weekend after payday. This morning I woke up got the kids off to school turned around and my cow is standing in a field on the other side of our electric fence. I'm all alone, unless you count my non cow herding dogs. So to make my life easier, I take apart the electric fence and coax the cow back in using her feed. That only took an hour!

The problem I am having is that ever since I started my new job - I haven't made any soap or anything! I am in desperate need to make new products because I'd like to open in mid-September! So this weekend, I am going to hide in my soap room and avoid everything that will take my mind off making things!

I've got some awesome new fall scents I want to get ready and of course I'll need to take photos!

So what about you? Do you seem to have bad luck or good luck?

When my husbands car stopped at the end of the drive way yesterday morning I thought nothing until he turned it off and got out. I looked out the window and my heart sank, the tears came like a flood and anguish spread through me like wildfire. My beloved cat had been hit by a car.

Her name was AJ and she was a truly special pet to me. First of all she was a badass cat! She was scared of nothing, when I would train the horses, she would lay in the middle of the round pen while I was lunging them in circles and they would have to go around her - she would not move. She liked to hunt, all cats do, but she liked to hunt rabbits and other large prey. She never bit the kids, she did nip me when the litter box was dirty, her food bowl was empty or when she wanted to be let outside.

Now she is gone and we are all very sad. We wrapped her in white satin and buried her in front of my favorite flower garden. My children were very upset but they got better after a couple hours. I on the other hand woke up thinking it was all a bad dream, then I remembered.

AJ, I will miss you so much! You were the best cat I've ever owned but you were also a very special friend to me! I love you and I'll never forget you..... ♥ goodbye

Project #1 - Chicken Run

All year long I've been trying to dress up my flower gardens as well as my veggie garden. I've weeded regularly, added Hostas around the edges of the flower gardens and taken silage from one of the old silos and spread a 4 inch layer on each garden to prevent the weeds from getting out of control.

The silage has done a beautiful job keeping the weeds to a minimum, however, the chickens seem to think I've made them new beds/buffets!!!

They have shredded my Hostas from scratching the area around them looking for bugs, thrown the silage every which way but back where it came from, and they have ruined several of my other flowers from scratching, and pecking!

So long story short, I told my husband (Larry) that I wanted to make a pen for them so they couldn't get out and he thought that was a great idea! I drew up plans of how I wanted everything and he agreed. Then I went to the store, DON'T LEAVE YOUR HUSBAND ALONE WHEN YOU ARE BUILDING SOMETHING!!!!!

I got home from the store, and Larry had written up new plans that included room for the dogs, consisted of 8 strands of electric wire instead of chicken wire and still used the old coop instead of the new small one I wanted to build. I wasn't thrilled about it but as long as it kept the chickens out of my gardens who the heck cares what it looks like, right?

Even longer story shorter, we spent this past Saturday & Sunday in the 95+ degree heat building fence and stringing wire. Oh the joy!! Check it out!!!

We dug 16 posts, nailed in 125 wire insulators, strung a little less than 1 mile of electric wire, fixed gates, and re-arrange the inside of the coop and this is what happens:

They all go right under the wire, some get a small shock but they still go right through, others don't get a shock at all, some get shocked 3 or 4 times before they go to a different area and get through without a shock. It sounds cruel but I assure you it's a very tiny zap! Something like a 9 volt battery on the tongue.

Now we have to figure out what to do to make them stay in their pens!!!

I'll let you know what we come up with!

Oakmoss & Lavender Basil Fragrance Poll Results

I'm thrilled that the voting for these two fragrances went over so well! I will be adding both of these fragrances to my regular soap stock and will also add them to some of the body products offered in my shop when I re-open in the fall!

I love fragrance suggestions too so if you'd like me to carry something, drop me a convo or an e-mail and let me know! If it's a scent that I can get, I'll test it out and if it's passes, we'll add it! I can also do custom items!

I think the next voting round will be Water Ivy and Honey Almond - looking forward to getting your thoughts on these two!

I'll be closing my shop on August 2nd and will re-open between September 8th and October 1st.

SHOP CLOSING!!!

Don't Panic :0) For those of you that do not know, I not only make soap but my husband and I manage a small farm. The next few months we will be taking on quite a few new things. We'll be adding milk cows to our residence (look for Cold Process Milk Soaps this fall), some additional chickens, possibly a pig (great for clearing out and tilling the gardens) and there are several large projects that we are trying to finish before winter sets in.

With all that is taking place here at home, I've decided that I will need to close my shop for at least the next few months. The shop will be closing no later than August 16th. If I run out of in stock items before then, I will close it sooner. I hope to re-open sometime in October but can't give an exact date yet, but I will keep you posted!

I will still be checking e-mail and convos at least once a day and if you find yourself out of something while my shop is closed, please contact me and I'll see if I can get it for you.

I will put my shop on vacation mode when I close my shop and if you visit while I'm closed, you can check the box in my shop announcement that will send you an e-mail to let you know when I re-open. I will also of course send an e-mail to all of you when I re-open as well.

You can always check here or follow me on Twitter to see what I'm up to for the next few months as well!

Be sure to stock up on your favorites now. I'm not sure what I'll have when I close the shop in August but I do promise to have to new and exciting scents when I re-open in October!!

Scent Polls are open!

In the June edition of my newsletter my readers know that I would be asking for my customers opinions on certain fragrances in my shop.

The first 2 fragrances that I'm looking for feedback on are Oakmoss and Lavender Basil.

Oakmoss is a clean and fresh scent that is not sweet or musky. It is definitely one for guys and gals alike!

Lavender Basil is a light floral scent with mild tones of basil which gives the lavender a nicely rounded herbal scent.

I've been sending samples of both to everyone who has placed an order since around the 7th of June. I've just made a fresh batch of samples to be sent out with future orders this month. Once these run out I'll leave voting open through the 17th of July.

I'll start sending samples of 2 other fragrances when I am out of the Oakmoss and Lavender Basil samples and open voting on the new scents and post another blog regarding that when the time comes.

If you receive samples of the Lavender Basil and Oakmoss - please let me know what you think by voting on the right hand side of this blog! I've added a clearance section to my shop recently! It currently has products that I will be discontinuing indefinitely or retiring for the season! The products have been reduced up to 50% so take advantage of the savings!

Over the next few weeks I will be analyzing my sales and determining which scents should be kept and which should be removed. I've noticed that with my last fragrance oil purchase I bought several oils that were very similar to scents I already carry in my shop!

I've added a new section to my shop called "FLAT RATE SHIPPING"!

This section will contain all items that can be shipped together for one low shipping price. You can choose as many items from this section as you'd like and will not be charged any additional per item shipping charges.

I'll still offer items in the appropriate sections in my shop for those that only want to order 1 or 2 items or for those items like Bath Bombs and 8 oz Souffle Soaps that don't qualify for Flat Rate shipping. These items will still have the current shipping prices in each listing.

These attractive oval shaped jars hold 4 full ounces of my fabulous Body Mousse. So if you thought the 2 oz. jars were not enough but the 16 oz. jars were way too much this is the perfect size for you!

Also, if you would like a Body Mousse (or any products) in a scent that I carry in my shop but not in that particular product, please feel free to convo or e-mail me and I will create a reserved custom listing for you.

The only scents that I cannot create are Limited Edition scented products because I will not have these scents on hand.

In addition to the 14 types of flavors I currently offer in my shop, I've decided to add another 7 flavors for all you Lip Butter lovers out there!

Beginning the week of March 1st, I will be adding the following types of Lip Butters to my shop so keep your eyes out for them!

New Soaps Added to shop!!!

Every week I try to add new soaps to my shop. I even decided to put a paragraph in my shop announcement that highlights what new soaps and products will be listed that week. This week was no exception. I've added the following new scents to my shop!

This is Strawberry Champagne Olive Oil Soap, which is a sweet and bubbly scent that is really really good!

This is Raspberry Almond Olive Oil Soap, a warm and buttery almond scent blended perfectly with a sweet and slightly tart Raspberry scent.
This is Apple Buttercream! This is a really rich and warm Buttercream scent that is rounded out nicely with fresh and crisp red and green apples!

This is Pearberry Olive Oil Soap which is a very sweet fruity mix of pears and ripe berries!

This is Creme Brulee Sugar Soap which is a very rich and decadent dessert scent that is warm, buttery, rich, creamy, and just plain great!!

And last but not least Black Cherry Shaving Soap Bars - this is extremely good! It is so sweet and rich. Smells exactly like Black Cherries and I just love it!!

New Cold Process Soaps coming in March

Hello again everyone!

I just wanted to let all of my wonderful customers know that I will be creating some more Cold Process soaps next week and they should be ready to list in my shop in late March.

I will continue to make the Glycerin (melt and pour) soaps as well as Olive Oil Soaps and Shaving Soap Bars too so no worries there.

Also, I had mentioned that I will be stopping production of Body Mousse in February but have decided to offer both Body Mousse and Lotion Bars all year long. If the summer months prove to be more than either product can handle during shipment, I may need to stop production at that time and send an e-mail and blog regarding this info, but I am confident that they will hold up well.

Thank heavens January is behind us!

Ok, seriously January was an absolute disastrous month for me! Everything that could go wrong and cost a fortune did go wrong and did cost a fortune! Here's a recap:

Our water well broke - $600.00 (OH NO)
Cat to the vet for urinary block - $300.00 (are you serious?)
Daughter asthma attack & meds - $200.00 (and that's with insurance)

Not to mention all the daily things that just never seem to work out as planned!

HOWEVER, because I am an optimist I will also point out all the good things that happened in January:

I got a new wholesale client (Yay me!)
Sales for the month were double what my goal was! (another Yay Me!)
My daughters asthma attack was quickly handled by our doctor and she was fine within a week! (Yay Doctor!)
My Cat seems to have made a full recovery and is now back to being obnoxiously normal. (YAY Vet!)
Our well service people came out the next day and fixed it that day and are allowing us to make payments! (YAY Well GUYS!)

See, when you put things in retrospect, they could have been much worse! So, I guess, January was "rough" but not as bad as it seemed now that we're in February!

But that doesn't mean I can't hope that February goes by without any problems, right?
